Buy a Rolex Day-Date: the history of the model
The Rolex Day-Date was launched in 1956 and is the flagship of the Swiss brand. It has a long history as one of the most exclusive watches in the world, worn by countless well-known figures over the decades — a status the Day-Date still holds today.
The Rolex Day-Date is now available in two sizes (36 and 40 mm), and its silhouette has remained remarkably consistent over the years. The case and bracelet are made entirely of precious metal — either gold or platinum — and the dial shows both the day and the date.
Inside the most recent Day-Date sits the calibre 3255, one of the finest movements being produced today. It's a fully automatic movement with a power reserve of around 70 hours and is COSC-certified, meaning it has been independently tested for accuracy and precision. Because the current Rolex Day-Date also uses a Parachrom hairspring (anti-magnetic) and Paraflex shock absorbers, the watch is well protected against shocks, temperature variations and more.
When it comes to the Rolex Day-Date, the options for making it your own are almost endless. The watch is available in yellow, white and rose gold, as well as platinum. From there, you can choose a dial in a range of colours, including blue, green, rhodium, chocolate, sundust, white, black, Eisenkiesel and fully diamond-set. It's also possible to replace the gold bezel with one set with diamonds. Every Rolex Day-Date comes on the signature President bracelet.
Each year, Rolex typically announces new models and specification updates at the Watches & Wonders event in Geneva. This means certain models are discontinued while new variants are added to the range. Several new combinations of the Rolex Day-Date were released this year, including three new dials for the 36 mm model (Turquoise, Green Aventurine and Carnelian). These dials can also be paired with additional gem-setting, for instance on the bezel. A new Rolex Day-Date in platinum has also been introduced, which can be ordered with a fluted bezel as shown in the photo below. The dial colour on this model has changed as well.
As a daily watch, the Rolex Day-Date is hard to beat. Its exclusive appearance combined with a robust case and bracelet make it a real pleasure to wear. It sits so comfortably on the wrist that, after a while, you barely notice you're wearing it.

Most Rolex watches are waterproof and are tested for water resistance before leaving the factory. It is of course wise to find out in advance whether your watch is waterproof. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
