Rolex GMT-Master: the history of the model
The Rolex GMT-Master was launched in 1954 and is today one of the Swiss brand's most popular models. It was one of the very first so-called 'sports watches' developed by Rolex, with its case and bracelet engineered in a distinctive way to deliver both comfort and durability.
The Rolex GMT-Master is currently offered in a single case size (40 millimetres) and has remained visually consistent over the decades. The modern version features a ceramic bezel that allows you to track a second time zone at a glance. The GMT-Master is also available with a date function.
Inside the watch you'll find the calibre 3285, one of the finest movements being produced today. It's a fully automatic movement with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and is COSC certified. COSC is the independent Swiss institute that certifies movements for accuracy and precision. Because the latest Rolex GMT-Master also uses a Parachrom hairspring (anti-magnetic) and Paraflex shock absorbers, the watch is well protected against knocks, temperature changes and more.
The Rolex GMT-Master offers plenty of customisation, starting with the dial. You can, for example, pair a white-gold GMT-Master with a blue dial, or opt for a dial in meteorite. Material choices range from steel and two-tone (gold and steel) to solid gold (white gold or rose gold), so you can choose a watch that suits your taste exactly.
Each year, Rolex announces new models and updated specifications at the Watches & Wonders event in Geneva. Some references are discontinued, while new ones are added to the line-up. Recent additions to the GMT-Master range include a version in yellow gold on a Jubilee bracelet, as well as a steel and yellow-gold model on a Jubilee bracelet — featuring the finer five-link construction rather than the three-link Oyster, giving the watch an elegant yet robust look.
In everyday wear, the Rolex GMT-Master performs brilliantly. Its sporty yet refined appearance, combined with its robust case and bracelet, makes it a watch you can enjoy every day. It sits so comfortably on the wrist that, after a while, you barely notice you're wearing it.

Most Rolex watches are waterproof and are tested for water resistance before leaving the factory. By screwing the crown properly, the timepiece is hermetically sealed from the outside world and moisture cannot penetrate normally. It is of course wise to find out in advance whether your watch is waterproof. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
