Buy Rolex Explorer: the history of the model

The Rolex Explorer was launched in 1954 and has a long history as one of the Swiss brand's most robust watches.

The Rolex Explorer is currently available in two sizes (36 and 40 mm), and its silhouette has remained largely unchanged over the years. The watch is typically made in Oystersteel, but it's also available in a two-tone version combining steel and yellow gold.

Inside the watch sits the calibre 3230, one of the finest movements being produced today. It's a fully automatic movement with a power reserve of around 70 hours and is COSC-certified, meaning it has been independently tested for accuracy and precision. Because the current Rolex Explorer also uses a Parachrom hairspring (anti-magnetic) and Paraflex shock absorbers, the watch is well protected against shocks, temperature variations and more.

The options for personalising a Rolex Explorer are intentionally limited. The watch comes exclusively on the Oyster bracelet and is always fitted with a black dial — a deliberate nod to its utilitarian, tool-watch roots.

As a daily watch, the Rolex Explorer is hard to beat. Its robust case and bracelet make it a real pleasure to wear. It sits so comfortably on the wrist that, after a while, you barely notice you're wearing it.
