Rolex Oyster Perpetual: the history of the model
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual was launched in 1945 and is today one of the brand's most popular models. Together with Rolex's other lines, it marks the beginning of the modern Rolex. Every watch in the line has always been fitted with a waterproof case, which made it one of the most innovative timepieces in the world at the time.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual is now available in several sizes (ranging from 28 to 41 millimetres), and its silhouette has remained largely unchanged over the decades. It comes with a smooth steel bezel, and unlike many other Rolex models it is not offered with a date function.
Inside the watch you'll find the calibre 3230, one of the finest movements being produced today. The smaller sizes of the Oyster Perpetual are fitted with other movements, such as the calibre 2232. These are fully automatic movements with a power reserve of between 55 and 70 hours, and all are COSC certified, meaning they have been tested by the independent Swiss institute for chronometer accuracy and precision. Because the latest Rolex Oyster Perpetual also uses a Parachrom hairspring (anti-magnetic) and Paraflex shock absorbers, the watch is well protected against knocks, temperature changes and more.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual is produced in a range of sizes, from 28 to 41 millimetres, with several customisation options — starting with the dial. At the time of writing, the brand's most sought-after dial is a distinctive Rolex green, which is highly popular with collectors and therefore often sold out.
Each year, Rolex announces new models and updated specifications at the Watches & Wonders event in Geneva. Some references are discontinued, while new ones are added to the line-up. Recent additions to the Oyster Perpetual range include a steel version with a particularly distinctive dial: rather than the single-colour dials that have long defined this line, Rolex has introduced a playful combination of colours that gives the dial an artistic character.
In everyday wear, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual performs brilliantly. Its refined looks combined with a robust, sturdy case and bracelet make it a watch you can enjoy every day. It sits so comfortably on the wrist that, after a while, you barely notice you're wearing it.

Frequently asked questions about Rolex
One of the most popular men's watches from Rolex is the Datejust, which has proven itself for years as an elegant but at the same time sporty watch. In addition, the Rolex Daytona is of course a great watch from the Swiss brand, and has won the hearts of many Rolex fans for decades. The Rolex Submariner is very popular due to its sporty and robust appearance. Finally, the Rolex GMT-Master can be seen as one of the most popular men's watches, due to its functions and beautiful look and feel.
Many ladies are charmed by the Lady-Datejust, a watch that will look beautiful and is suitable for both a sporty and chic look. In addition to the Lady-Datejust, the Yacht-Master is becoming increasingly popular as a ladies' watch. This model is available in various sizes and materials, and is suitable for both larger and slimmer wrists. Furthermore, the Rolex Day-Date is a very popular women's watch to this day. The beautiful combinations make it possible to select the watch entirely to your own taste.
The advantage of a Pre-Owned (second-hand) or Unworn Rolex watch is that it is possible to purchase it immediately and thus avoid the long waiting lists that sometimes exist. Some models may have to wait for years in 2023 before they are finally available. At Amstel Watches we have a large stock of Pre-Owned and Unworn watches, making it possible for your dream watch to be immediately available for purchase.
Many watches in our range have a manufacturer's warranty that still applies, but this is of course indicated with the watch itself on our website. In addition, it is wise to contact us to inquire whether the warranty still applies to the watch.
Most Rolex watches are waterproof and are tested for water resistance before leaving the factory. It is of course important to screw the crown of the watch properly if you have adjusted the time, date or day. By screwing the crown properly, the timepiece is hermetically sealed from the outside world and moisture cannot penetrate normally. It is of course wise to find out in advance whether your watch is waterproof. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
