Alongside the Daytona and the Datejust, the Rolex Submariner is one of the brand's most sought-after models. It was introduced in 1953 as a professional diver's watch, but quickly gained a devoted following well beyond diving circles. What made the Submariner remarkable at the time was its water resistance — a level of performance no other brand had yet achieved in a wristwatch.

Today's Rolex Submariner has a 41 mm case, and its silhouette has remained largely unchanged over the decades. On the outside you'll find the well-known Cerachrom ceramic bezel. The Submariner is also available with a date function, making it easy to read the date at a glance.

Inside the watch sits the calibre 3230, one of the finest movements being produced today. It's a fully automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve and is COSC-certified, meaning it has been independently tested for accuracy and precision. Because the current Rolex Submariner also uses a Parachrom hairspring (anti-magnetic) and Paraflex shock absorbers, the watch is well protected against shocks, temperature variations and more.

The Rolex Submariner is currently only available in 41 mm, but there are several variations across materials, dials and bracelets. Here's an overview:

• Rolex Submariner in Oystersteel — an all-steel Submariner with an Oyster bracelet and a ceramic bezel.
• Rolex Submariner in solid gold (white or yellow gold), with an Oyster bracelet and a ceramic bezel. Cast entirely in precious metal, this version has real presence on the wrist.
• Rolex Submariner in two-tone (steel and yellow gold), with an Oyster bracelet and a ceramic bezel. The combination of materials gives this version a distinctive look.
