Buy Rolex Milgauss: the history of the model

The Rolex Milgauss was launched in 1956 and has a long history as one of the brand's most robust watches. Originally designed for scientists and engineers working in high-magnetic environments, the Milgauss owes its name to its resistance to magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss — "mille gauss" — thanks to a soft iron inner case that shields the movement. The watch has a 40 mm case, is made in Oystersteel, and its silhouette has remained largely unchanged over the years. (Update: as of 27 March 2023, the Milgauss has been discontinued, meaning the model is no longer part of the current Rolex catalogue.)

Inside the watch sits the calibre 3131, one of Rolex's robust in-house movements. It's a fully automatic movement with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours and is COSC-certified, meaning it has been independently tested for accuracy and precision. Because the Rolex Milgauss also uses a Parachrom hairspring (anti-magnetic) and Paraflex shock absorbers, the watch is well protected against shocks, temperature variations and more.

As a daily watch, the Rolex Milgauss is hard to beat. Its robust case and Oyster bracelet make it a real pleasure to wear. It sits so comfortably on the wrist that, after a while, you barely notice you're wearing it.
